On our 1st night in Fukuoka, we decided to visit the renowned yatai (portable eating dinner carts) along the river. There were many vendors selling yakitori and ramen. These vendors rolled their carts along the river everday around 3pm, cooked and served up their food for many guests eating right up onto their cart, and then shut everything down and rolled their carts away at 5am the following morning. It was a very interesting eating experience. My mom's leg was up against the tire and I was resting my feet on the bumber. The ramen was good though!
(The family eating ramen on the yatai. It was a little cramped, but it was good food and a good time talking to the chef and chief of operations)
(There were many of these yatai out on the waterfront. I think there were about 30 out the night we were walking around..and they were all busy!!)
On our 2nd day in Fukuoka, we did some site seeing. We took the bullet train to a nearby town called Iwakuni. There we saw an awesome bridge that spanned the river, made out of stone and wood.
(The bridge spanning the water. It was interesting to walk over in that to get up and down, there are steps. The tops of the arches feel very...round...)
(The underside of the bridge. It was very interesting to see how they supported the arches.)
